Kings County Service Learning

Previous Service Learning Project

On May 27, 2001 Mrs. Goodman's Pioneer Middle School class participated in a Service Learning project which involved helping out at the Remmington Valley Christian Retirement Center. Every student was selected to interview a resident of the facility. Some of the students interviewed their grandparents. They were also able to visit an 85 year-old barn filled with many glorious antiques. Most of these antiques were from old car parts and washboards. The senior residents were very thankful for their visit.

Character Counts

Kings County participates in the Character Counts! program. Character Counts! is a nonprofit organization which uses a framework based on basic values, which they call the Six Pillars of Character. These pillars are: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. A myriad of schools and communities also use the Character Counts! program to enhance their curriculums in a positive way. Character Counts! has been proven to reduce behavioral incidents and general bad behavior.
